Jisoo Kim was born in Jakarta1 and is currently based in Seoul as a Type Designer2. She has a bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley3 where she studied Cognitive Science4. She began her type design education through the TypeParis5 program in Paris. She worked at Korean type foundry Design2106, designing both Korean and Latin scripts. She later completed the postgraduate program at the Paju Typography Institute(PaTI)7. Currently, Jisoo works at Sandoll8, where she manages the SandollCloud web/mobile platform and oversees international foundry partnerships.

2 Type Designer
She has been interested in calligraphy, lettering, and fonts from a young age. While she enjoys lettering as well, she finds deep joy and fulfillment in the process of completing an entire typeface.


3 UC Berkeley (University of California, Berkeley)
A public university located in Berkeley, a city adjacent to San Francisco, California. During her time there, she was actively involved in various student groups, including Spoon University (an online food journal), Innovative Design (a graphic design club), and Cal Jazz Choir (jazz a cappella group).


4 Cognitive Science
An interdisciplinary major that explores what makes us human by drawing from psychology, linguistics, philosophy, computer science, and neuroscience.


5 TypeParis
A Latin type design program she completed in the summer of 2019 over six weeks, founded and taught by French type designer Jean François Porchez. Her final project was Mirabelle, a retro and warm serif family.


6 Design210
She worked for two years as a researcher at the Type Design Lab. She developed a Latin font series, organized and taught Latin calligraphy seminars, and contributed to both custom corporate fonts and in-house font projects. In October 2020, she presented a project on digitizing old woodblock Hangul fonts at the international typography conference ATypI All Over, held online.


7 Paju Typography Institute (PaTI)
An independent design school founded in 2013, located in Paju Book City. Also commonly known as PaTI. For her graduation project, she designed a typeface called Whorl.


8 Sandoll
